"A real pleasure for those who
recognise the worth of individual attention to detail. This is
my choice for the real offshore cruiser / racer with benefits
of both traditional style and modern comfort"
Yachting
World
Stephen Jones designed
the Starlight 39 with exceptionally beautiful lines to be a fast,
safe, passage maker which would be a joy to sail. Stephen's successful
design skills, coupled with the quality workmanship of the Rival
Bowman craftsmen have developed one of the most successful yachts
in her class.
The Starlight 39 Mk2 enjoys a host of enhancements
which have been developed over the years with considerable input
from owners who have sailed thousands of miles, both cruising
and racing these fine craft.
Although fully crewed Starlight 39s have enjoyed
considerable success on the racing circuit the majority of boats
are used for cruising with the family and making the most of the
luxurious accommodation and carefree sailing that these yachts
provide.
CONSTRUCTION
The Starlight 39 Mk2 enjoys exceptional qualities of thermal and
acoustic insulation. These qualities are achieved by a building
process which incorporates an inner and outer moulding, enclosing
a foam core. This provides a hull which is quieter, warmer and
has a noticeable lack of condensation compared with conventionally
built yachts.
Inside the hull, the deep bilge prevents any water
from running into the accommodation when the boat is heeled. The
half depth skeg, provides a lower bearing for the substantial
rudder and ensures that the Starlight tracks straight without
constant attention to the wheel. It is this attention to detail
that makes the Starlight 39Mk2 a thoroughly seaworthy vessel.
ACCOMMODATION
The Starlight 39 Mk2 has a superb cruising interior with high
quality teak joinery. The layout offers space and comfort combined
with practicality in a boat designed for offshore cruising. The
two settee berths serve as comfortable sea berths with lee cloths
provided as standard. The owner's cabin is situated forward, with
en suite heads and shower. A double guest cabin aft also has its
own access to the aft day heads. The well fitted galley has double
sinks, refrigerator and gimballed cooker with oven and grill.
There is considerable stowage space outboard and below the worktop.
A forward facing chart table with instrument console and comfortable
seating ensures safe working in rough conditions.

ALTERNATIVE LAYOUT
For those who normally cruise with a small crew there is an excellent
alternative layout, which provides a larger owner's cabin. This
is achieved by removing the forward heads compartment and replacing
it with a vanity unit and wash basin. Additional stowage is provided
by lockers above and below the work surface of the vanity unit.
For those who prefer an alternative to the traditional teak, we
also offer the interior joinery in American Cherry.
ENGINE
The powerful Yanmar diesel, with conventional shaft drive, is
located in a sound deadened engine box under the companionway.
This box is designed to provide excellent access from the sides
and above, without the need to remove the companionway ladder.

UNDER SAIL
All control lines, including both luff and leech reefing lines,
are led aft so that the crew do not need to leave the safety of
the cockpit to reduce sail.
The standard inventory includes a fully battened
mainsail, with lazy jacks. The battens prevent the sail from flogging
and the lazy jacks support the sail when lowered and stowed.
Every aspect of the yacht's handling has been considered
to make it easy for two people to sail.
The Starlight 39 Mk2 is a real thoroughbred and will show a clean
pair of hells to the majority of yachts of her size. With several
transatlantic crossings already undertaken these yachts have shown
that they can take the extreme conditions of ocean sailing in
their stride.
Having taken part in the Yachting World rally for
40 footers, the magazine reported "A real pleasure for those
who recognise the worth of individual attention to build detail.
This is my choice for the real offshore cruiser/racer with benefits
of both tradition style and modern comfort".
